What is immediately inspiring about a work such as Bob Torres’s Making a Killing is the evident amount of political terrain that has been traversed since the publication of Animals, Men and Morals, Animal Liberation and the other early examples of contemporary animal advocacy more than thirty-five years ago.

The documentary Examined Life grounds philosophy in real world issues. Through a series of brief interviews with some of today’s most provocative thinkers, the film addresses issues of ethics, morals, citizenship, democracy, disability, sexuality, consumerism, social contract theory, revolution, and human vulnerability and interdependency.

Arguing about the nature of anarchism is a popular anarchist pastime, and Paul McLaughlin here offers a provocative intervention in that debate, in the form of a ‘philosophical introduction to classical anarchism’. While I don’t in the end find his answer convincing, he does a good deal of valuable work in the course of arguing for it.
