Vegan with a Vengeance by Isa Chandra Moskowitz is so entertaining and informative, I would write a review about it even if it weren’t a cookbook. But it is. And at that it’s the most excellent cookbook I have ever come across. Isa is cooking for a dietary and political revolution.

Tribe of Heart’s documentary, Peaceable Kingdom, asks viewers how current factory farm practices can be justified given that the treatment of farm animals, while perfectly legal, is so undeniably cruel. This film advocates a reawakening of both human conscience and compassion. It suggests that this can be achieved through reconnecting to the innate affection most people have for animals (not just pets) which is often stifled or discouraged in a modern consumer society.

Definitive. If there is one word to describe Veganomicon, the brand new cookbook by Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero, definitive is definitely it. Never before has a vegan cookbook even attempted to reach Veganomicon’s level of creativity, versatility, flexibility and just plain delicious-ness (though there’s nothing plain about it!).

The Witness, an award winning documentary, tells the story of a personal miracle, a change in perception. Eddie Lama is an architectural metals contractor in New York, with a mission to raise awareness about animal suffering.
Growing up in a violent neighbourhood in the Bronx, Eddie frequently witnessed friends harm zoo animals at night or chase cats down alleys with intent to harm. The only reason he didn’t participate himself, he says, was fear. Eddie never had a pet growing up. Having been raised in a family with an aversion to pets, Eddie was afraid of animals.

The 2003 documentary film Earthlings, Narrated by Joaquin Phoenix and directed by Shaun Monson, presents a shocking account of the relationships between nature, nonhuman animals, and humankind with horrifying images of animal use over the swooning original soundtrack by Moby.
While Earthlings’ thesis is the noble comparison of these three elements of life, the film mostly draws on the dark consequences of human dominance over animals.
